Today was all about great attitudes.
We said our goodbyes to
Mike Smuts at the Jo’burg International airport and got on our flight to
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The pilots were concerned about something, so rather
than risk it, we delayed a few hours and ultimately ended up switching planes.
Yes, we missed out on a few activities, but what great attitudes this group
has. Rather than complain, we made the most of it. We got to Vic Falls, got our
visas ($45 each) and made it to the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge just in time to
catch the last rays of sunlight setting over the distant horizon, and see
elephant and giraffe drinking in the small lake far below the lodge veranda.
What an incredible scene.
We had a great time out on the veranda talking about our trip, then headed to Boma’s, one of Zimbabwe’s most famous restaurants. A
bit like a Brazilian grill, we enjoyed Kudu stew, Warthog, Guinea Fowl,
crocodile, impala and so much more, including a fried Mopani worm. Several in
the group ate the worms and are coming home with certificates to prove it!
African face painting was a hit, and so was drumming with
African drummers and dancing in the middle of Boma’s with tourists from around
the world. For the short ride back to the lodge, 16 of the group managed to
cram themselves into a tiny van. When asked here how many people can fit into
one of those little vans, the answer is, “one more!”
