Today was a different kind of tourism. We stayed put at the
Communities of Fusion farm/ministry just outside of Nampula, and learned as much
as we could about their holistic approach to farming/business/ministry/discipleship.
It was quite incredible.
Andrew Cunninghan of Zimbabwe, Scott Marquis of Zimbabwe,
and many others, are part of the team here. A decade ago, this area was
undeveloped scrub land. Today it’s a large-scale broiler chicken operation, egg
producer, an agricultural college, a for-profit school developing a reputation
for excellence, and so much more. There’s way too much going on here to try and
include in this blog, but here’s a summary:
Communities of Fusion is made up of seven separate entities
all working together to bring Shalom to one of the world’s poorest countries. This
group of Expat’s and Mozambicans has a well thought-out foundational philosophy
soaked in Scripture. They have a passion for God’s glory, and that’s evident in
what they do and how they do it. They’re very aware that God “chooses the weak
and ignorant things of this world.”
Seeing what they’re doing for God’s glory and for the
building up of Africa, it was impossible not to contrast this Christian
organization with ISIS, which is all over the news these days. ISIS is devoted
to death and destruction. Fusion is devoted to life and Shalom. Praise God
these people are here doing what they’re doing for His glory.
We also had the privilege of spending time with Dordt
graduate Chris Bylsma, who’s almost one year into his two-year time of working
here. It was obvious that Chris is loving it! And current Dordt student Kyle
Fosse, a missionary kid from Mozambique, came here with his parents, Paul and
Sue Fosse! Kyle is home here for the summer and lives only two hours from
Nampula. It was great having the Fosse family spend the day with us too.
Enjoy a these pictures of our day with the good people here
at the Communities of Fusion, Nampula, Mozambique.
